Okay, I gotta ask--what are the chances that two comics in a row, I am completely unfamiliar with the writer? I don't even know the artist on this one! Back to Wikipedia, I guess.
Apparently, Raney has done work on Alpha Flight, Ultimate X-Men, and Annihilation Conquest, which actually speaks well to his ability to do a team up like Avenger's Academy.
Christos Gage is one friendly, happy looking bastard--I couldn't help but grin when I saw his picture:
I mean, look at that guy? He literally has rosy cheeks!
Anyways, I should know him from Thunderbolts and Avengers: The Initiative. Two titles I am only passingly familiar with, so not entirely surprising that I don't recognize his work.
I read a few Avenger's Academy books way back when it was getting started, and I immediately started loving Mettle. Talk about a cutie! I would give him the biggest hugs there ever was. Is it just me or does Hazmat's helmet kind of look like a Koala on the first page after the recap??
Yay!!! I love gigantic dinosaur Reptil! Adult Stryker looks remarkably like Tony Stark or Stephen Strange to me. The artwork where it shows where Finesse gets her fighting abilities (like Iron Fist) is really well done, in my opinion.
Raney draws a great Tigra, but I hate that everyone feels the need to put her in a bikini. I don't think we would lose any of the character to throw on a skirt, a pair of shorts, something.
Poor Mettle and Hazmat =( That was a very touching scene in the student lounge there. Poor kids...
Sad ending. But am I the only one that is thinking Colossus and Rogue? Rogue couldn't touch anyone without draining them....except Colossus, so they totally hooked up, didn't they? I wonder if that is what they are setting up here for Mettle and Hazmat.
Good issue =) I like that series.
